A control cable can look simple until a replacement arrives with the wrong functional length or end fitting. The RFQ should make the measurement references unambiguous.
Define each length
State whether you are measuring outer housing length, exposed inner cable, overall assembly or another functional dimension. Photograph where each measurement begins and ends.
Measure the cable and housing
Record inner cable diameter and housing outside diameter where possible. Note whether the application is pull-only or push-pull and whether the housing has liners or other visible construction details.
Document both ends
Photograph each fitting separately and include threaded sizes, nipples, clevises, ferrules, bulkhead fittings, mounting brackets or other termination geometry.
Describe travel and application
If the cable must move a lever through a defined stroke, include the approximate travel and equipment or application. A cable that physically connects can still be wrong functionally.
Send the old reference
Manufacturer markings, equipment manuals, old invoices and sample photos can all help connect the replacement request to a known specification.
